I don’t remember how or why I wanted to make our own party mix but I thought it would be fun for Madison and I to put together two kiddo approved party mixes that her and my youngest would enjoy. On Monday’s and Wednesdays my son is at preschool until my husband gets home from work so after I get my oldest off of the bus we have from 330-530 of alone time together. I always try and give her an hour to unwind and relax while I prep dinner and then we have an hour to ourselves so this was one of the activities that we did one day. She loved helping make a separate package for her Daddy and her younger brother. I know I wanted to make a spicy one for my husband and I had a buffalo spice mixture he had purchased from our local grocer earlier this year. I also wanted to make a pumpkin related fallish combo and the other one I wanted to try was an original flavor party mix. If you don’t have buffalo seasoning like I do you can always use a Taco seasoning packet, chili seasoning packet or a buffalo sauce.
I set out bowls and I purchased the following food that I knew my family would love:
Cherrios (I bought the seasonal pumpkin kind)
Cheesits
Fishies
Raisins
Peanuts
Pretzels
M&M’s
Chex Mix
Candy Corn
I honestly just let my daughter choose by giving her a one cup measuring cup and let her scoop away, the pumpkin and original mix package ended up being 2 cups and I made 4 cups for the buffalo one so my husband would have some for the week. He actually told me he shared it with one of the guys that works for him and he liked it so much he went out and bought the stuff to make his own that night!
What to do with each Mix:
Choose your filling and add it to a large bowl. Remember if there is any chocolate you want to add that last after the butter is mixed. Mix the spices in a small bowl. Melt the butter in the microwave until it’s melted. Pour the butter in bowl, stir gently to combine. Pour in the spices and stir to combine again. Package and tie with a bow, add it to a ziplock bag or store in an airtight container for the week.
