I’ve actually been sitting on this goodness of a sandwich since last Winter!! I had never made an Au Jus Sauce before so when I saw this recipe I knew it had me and my husband’s name written all over it because we both LOVE steak and cheese sandwiches!
I changed the meat in this recipe because as I was food shopping one day I walked past the meat counter and saw the shaved steak and immediately wanted to create something with it. It’s a simple classic sandwich with a dipping sauce that can be for any busy weeknight or lunch!
Serves: 2
Recipe Adapted From: More Than Gourmet
Ingredients:
Sandwich rolls or Italian Bread
1 pd of shaved steak
1 tbsp of prepared horseradish
1 1/2 cups of beef stock
1 1/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp of olive oil
4 Slices of 2% American Cheese
What to do:
Preheat your oven to broil and place rolls or bread underneath for 5 min to crisp the bread. Spread horseradish on the bottom of each sandwich. (feel free to use more if you’d like, I love the kick!)
Heat a skillet on medium high heat and add olive oil and steak. Cook the steak to your liking by moving it around with a set of tongs.
Meanwhile, make the Au Jus sauce by mixing the beef stock and worcestershire sauce together and set aside in a dipping dish.
Place as much steak on each sandwich as you’d like. Place a piece of cheese on top of each and set it back under the broiler.
Either pour some Au Jus sauce on top or set aside for dipping the sandwich right into it! We did both but note that it does make the sandwich more soggy! Who cares it’s all going into one place! My belly!!!
