When I was grocery shopping the other day I saw shaved steak at the meat counter and I immediatley thought of my husband, knowing he would love this in a Steak and Cheese Sandwich. I then searched high and low for a good recipe because he loves “hots” on his Steak & Cheese. I was braving it because, me and hots, not so much. I also wanted to make it a Panini because the bread I buy for it is low in calorie, fat and carbs! So here is what I ended up making up once I did some searching! (sorry for the crappy beginning photo’s, my camera died yet again!)
Ingredients:
1 lb. of shaved steak (Makes 4 Sandwiches)
8 slices of your favorite french bread
6 slices of reduced fat swiss cheese (feel free to use the cheese of your choice)
1/4 cup of low fat mozzarella shredded cheese
1 4.5 oz can of green chilli’s
1 tbsp. of low fat sour cream
1/2 cup of salsa (any kind depending on your preference)
Salt & Pepper
What to do:
In a small sauce pan add the chilli’s, salsa and sour cream and heat to a boil. Remove from heat.
In a saute pan, cook the steak, while seasoning it with salt and pepper (my husband added red pepper flakes to his finished sandwich so I guess I would add it here next time to give it more kick)
When it’s just about done, sprinkle the mozzarella and gently stir to let it melt through. Scoop some of the hot mixture on a piece of bread.
Top with steak and a slice and a half of swiss cheese. Top with the other piece of bread.
Spray a panini maker on the top and the bottom and place the sandwiches inside. I sprayed the top of the bread and pressed. (Don’t fret if you don’t have a panini maker, just use a grill top and press (use a cast iron pan to press or whatever) If you use the grill make sure you butter the bread and use the cooking spray, I learnt this the hard way!)
Press until the cheese is oozing out the sides! OMY!!
Slice and serve!! I served it with homemade chips, I’m not posting the recipe until I’ve perfected this, I can’t seem to get them “chip like” LOL!!
I loved loved loved this sandwich. My husband surly did and I will be making it again!
Sounds like a tasty sandwich to me. I do love spicy foods.
Next time I’ll add red pepper and make it spicier!!!
wow this sounds soooo good
