In honor of my husbands birthday today I thought I’d share a new cocktail with you that has became his signature drink this Summer. We enjoyed sipping on Daddy’s Margarita’s while we made Sunday Dinners on the deck or kicked off our weekends with Pizza on the grill. I like making them this way for a few reasons. One because the premix has so many calories in it, don’t get me wrong I know liquor in general has calories but when you go to a bar or restaurant they use the premix and it’s not worth all of those calories to me. Fresh lemon and lime juice can go a along way so use them!
It’s funny how birthday’s can easily just become another day the older you get. It’s a running joke between my husband and I that I’m “older” than him. Yes I am, by three weeks. Three whole weeks folks. I get reminded every year. I consider it a win in my book because my birthday comes at the end of September and then I get to out due Daddy in the gift giving department! My husband deserves to be spoiled rotten everyday of the week but on birthdays, anniversaries and Daddy’s Day I like to make it a little more special. The older we get the less we want to even acknowledge it, both of our birthdays fall on a Monday this year, see we are really exactly three weeks apart. What do you do on a Monday? We could have gone to our old stand by. Dinner at the 99 with the kids because it’s the only restaurant in town that can get us in and out in one hour. The only restaurant that can handle Drew. Nah, it was a beautiful day. It ended with hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill because we just wanted to be outside. As a surprise I planned a night away up North for my husband and I alone. No kids aloud! We both love Fall and going just an hour north can truly be one of the most beautiful places you’ve ever seen because of the leaves turning. Hey, I even promised him to do something adventurous like zip lining or hiking! Ha!
However be warned. They are strong. Daddy has a heavy arm and usually makes them one at a time however the last few weeks we’ve had some friends and family over and making them individually was making Daddy spend some time in the kitchen so here is how you can make a pitcher:
- 12 shots of Triple Sec
- 6-8 shots of Tequila
- 1½ shots of Lemoncello (liquor)
- 2 fresh limes (more for each glass)
- 1 fresh lemon (more for each glass)
- Use part of a quartered lime and drag it around the edge of 4 serving glasses. Dip into salt to coat the top of each rim.
- Fill a pitcher with ice. Add the liquids and then squeeze the fresh lemons and limes. Stir to combine and pour into your salt brimmed glasses using the ice in the pitcher.
