I found a recipe for Cheeseburger Egg Rolls a few months ago. Who doesn’t love a good cheeseburger and why not wrap it up and make it an egg roll! I don’t fry my egg rolls because the thought of eating something dipped and fried in oil like that makes my stomach turn. Don’t worry I’m normal, I’d eat one while out at a restaurant. I just don’t want to be the one making them and actually seeing ALL of the oil that goes into the food. I was desperate for a Date Night recipe for my husband and myself one night and happened to mention these wrappers to my mom. I said too bad I didn’t have any ground sirloin or I’d make them! Well low and behold she had some pre-made meatloaf frozen! I defrosted it and the egg rolls I had frozen and wala I had dinner! I even made up some dipping sauces to really make them feel like a cheese burger!
- 1 lb. of ground sirloin
- 1 green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 red pepper, finely chopped
- ½ cup of mushrooms, finely chopped
- 4 strips of center cut bacon, cooked and chopped
- 2 tbsp of ketchup
- ¾ cup of shredded cheese of your choice (I used Cabot's White Cheddar)
- egg rolls
- Dipping Sauce:
- 1 egg white
- 3 tbsp of ketchup
- 3 tbsp of mustard
- 2 tbsp of horseradish sauce
- Heat a skillet on medium heat and add the ground sirloin breaking it up with a wooden spoon. minutes.
- Add in chopped pepper and continue breaking up the meat to mix in the peppers. Continue to brown the meat.
- When it's almost completely cooked add in the mushrooms, ketchup and bacon. Mix to combine and remove from the heat when the meat is completely browned.
- In a small bowl beat the egg white and put aside. Line a baking pan with tinfoil and place 2 baking racks on top of the baking pan.
- Add 1-2 tbsp of meat mixture to one egg wrapper leaving the edges clear. Top with cheese. Fold in the sides and roll. Place seam down on the baking rack. Preheat oven to 350 Degrees.
- Brush each egg roll with the egg white and bake on one side for 8 minutes. Flip and bake for another 10 minutes.
- While they bake make the sauces by adding 1 tbsp of horseradish sauce to 3 tbsp of ketchup and 1 tbsp of horseradish to 3 tbsp of mustard.
- Change the heat over to broil and place the rack under the broiler for 5 minutes. Keep an eye on it, this will crisp them up more but you don't want to burn them, every oven is different.
- Serve with dipping sauces and enjoy!
This sounds like a fantastic snack dish to try out! Thanks for sharing!
Great recipe and I’m glad it’s baked. Thank you.
