8 Healthy Snacks For After School Time

Back to school is all new to me. I’ve flipped through magazines and provided you all with quick and easy back to school dinners to get you through your busy evenings of sports and activities and I’ve also done my research on back to school breakfast ideas to get out the door to meet the bus. This year is different though. This year my oldest went off to Kindergarten. It just got real folks. My baby is no longer a baby. I’m only barley into week three of this new schedule of ours. The most best part of my day is now 3:25PM. Meeting the bus and getting that I missed you hug. By then my youngest is practically begging for a snack but he always does patiently wait for his sister. Now I’m on a hunt for healthy snacks to give my kids after a day at school. Dinner is usually two hours later so keeping it healthy is important to me. So I thought I’d share 8 healthy snacks for after school time.

The first day of school I got to not only drop my daughter off but I had the opportunity to go into her classroom and meet her peers and teachers. I viewed what a day would be like for her. At the Pre-K she was in at daycare they had snack twice a day and the other two days she was home with me I have to admit, she ate whenever she wanted to. I then realized this was going to be a huge adjustment for her because her new routine would be breakfast with me, a small mid-morning snack, lunch at 12 and then off the bus at 3:25. I knew she would be real hungry come that time. Sure enough, three weeks in and each and every time she gets off the bus the first words out of her mouth are “I’m hungry!”

First up are my Apple & Yogurt Parfaits. It’s perfect for this time of year since apple picking is right around the corner. The yogurt will keep the kids full longer and the granola is full of protein!

I used to make these by the truck loads when my son was little. I can’t believe I never thought of it myself but both of my kids gobbled them up the second I made them. These Frozen Blueberry Bites from Live Eat Learn always go fast!

Last but not least these cute little Mini Ham & Cheese Club-Wiches from Pampered Chef. Of course my kids would opt for butter verses the mustard but I own the Cut-N-Seal® and I love it! The kids love it.

Most of these snacks can be made with your kids if you like getting them in the kitchen. I know I fight the urge myself because well it usually results in a bigger mess than if I were to make them but I try and remind myself how good it is for them too. My son LOVES helping me, my daughter not so much. What is your favorite after school snack to serve your kids? I’d love more ideas!
