You know that time of year when you want to get someone a gift, not spend a lot of money, but make it special and from the heart……..well here is your chance to start making your Christmas list!! The #SundaySupper group got together to bring you just the right gifts for the special people in your life…….who doesn’t love food as a gift??? No more knicknacks you can do without, no more gifts you won’t ever use! This great even is being hosted by Susan over at the Whimpy Vegetarian. Thank you Susan for hosting such a great event. I saw this idea during the summer and said to myself, I’m making these for the holiday! I’m thinking about making them for my daughters daycare providers. I’m calling them. A Soup For You! Let your friends and family curl up next to the fire with this yummy gift this winter!
Here are two examples but you can really make it your own any way you’d like by adding the dry ingredients. I keep the ingredients for the participant minor so they don’t have to worry about much since it’s a gift, however I can’t put sliced beef in a jar 🙂
Beef Barley Soup in a Jar
Ingredients:
- 2 envelopes onion soup mix ~OR~ 1 envelope onion soup mix plus 2 tbsp. beef bouillon granules
- 1 cup small pasta (shells, bows, alphabet etc.)
- 1/3 cup barley
- 1/3 cup lentils
- 1/3 cup barley
- optional: 2 tbsp dried chives
- tricolor small pasta to fill jar completely
Jar Mix Directions:
Layer the jar starting from the seasoning down to the pasta. You can really layer it anyway you’d like. I did the seasoning on the bottom and I snuck a packet of beef bouillion in there that you can’t even see! Make sure the jar is tightly packed to prevent contents from moving around.
Print these directions on white card stock and tie them with a bow to your jar:
Add one pound of stewing beef cut into one-inch pieces to 6 cups of water in a large pot. Simmer for 45 minutes. Add 6 more cups of water and the rest of the ingredients from the jar, and a can of peas and simmer for 15 min. ENJOY!!
Pasta Soup Mix
- 2 Tbsp Dried Basil
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/4 tsp Ground Black Pepper
- 1/4 cup Dried Onions
- 1/3 cup Beef Boullion Granules
- 3 1/2 cups Tri-Color Pasta
- Glass Jar
Fill the bottom of the jar with the spice ingredients and layer the tr-color pasta on top.
Print these directions on white card stock and tie them with a bow to your jar:
Bring 8 cups of water and 2 cups (1 can) crushed or diced tomatoes to a boil in a large pot. Add soup mix from jar and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, until the pasta is tender.
